A business visa, also known as a commercial visa, allows foreigners to enter Vietnam to work with a sponsoring company or organization. The DN1 visa is a common type of business visa granted to foreigners working or conducting business in Vietnam.
1. What is a DN1 visa?
The Vietnam DN1 visa, or business (commercial) visa, is abbreviated as DN1. It is a visa granted to foreigners entering Vietnam for the purpose of working with businesses or organizations with legal personality as stipulated by Vietnamese law (according to Clause 8, Article 8 of Law No. 51/2019/QH14).
The Business visa Vietnam has a validity period of no more than 12 months, meaning that foreigners will be granted a DN1 visa with a maximum validity of one year. Currently, foreigners can apply for a DN1 visa with the following validity periods:
- DN1 visa: 1-3 months, single entry

- DN1 visa: 6 months, multiple entry
- DN1 visa: 12 months, multiple entry
*Note: For cases where the foreigner’s passport or other international travel document is valid for less than 12 months, the DN1 visa will be issued with a shorter validity period than the passport or international travel document.

2. Conditions for Applying for a DN1 Business Visa
To apply for a DN1 business visa (Vietnam business visa), foreigners must meet the following conditions:
- Have a valid passport or international travel document that is still valid as per regulations.
- Have a company or business with legal status in Vietnam sponsoring them.
- Not fall under any of the cases where entry is prohibited as stipulated in Article 21 of Law No. 47/2014/QH13 (being forced to leave Vietnam, forging documents, etc.).
Have documents proving the purpose of entry (invitation letter, etc.), depending on the case.

4. What documents are required for a DN1 business visa application?
To apply for a Vietnam DN1 business visa, the foreigner and the sponsoring company need to apply for an entry permit. Then go to the Vietnamese Embassy abroad or an international border gate to have the visa stamp affixed.
Documents required for applying for an entry permit:
- Copy of the foreigner’s passport
- Business registration certificate of the sponsoring company
- Application for entry permit for foreigner NA2
- Application for company seal sample N16
- Documents proving the purpose of entry: power of attorney, business invitation letter, etc.

If the application for the entry permit is approved, the Immigration Department will issue an entry permit to the sponsoring company. The sponsoring company needs to notify and send the entry permit to the foreigner to complete the visa application process (DN1).

5. Where to submit an application for a Vietnamese DN1 visa?
After preparing all the required documents, the sponsoring company should submit the application to the following locations:
- At the Vietnam Immigration Department
- Or, at the Immigration Management Department – Provincial/City Police
Processing time for DN1 visa applications: The processing time is approximately 5 working days (maximum 7-10 days) from the time the Vietnam Immigration Department receives a complete and valid application.
Visa Fees for DN1 Visa: The fee for a DN1 visa depends on the type of visa applied for (duration and number of entries), specifically:
- DN1 Visa (1-3 months, single entry): 25 USD
- DN1 Visa (up to 3 months, multiple entries): 50 USD
- DN1 Visa (3-6 months, multiple entries): 95 USD
